(34,413 posts)but they were nowhere to be found when I moved to Grand Rapids. When I moved to Lansing in 2015, black squirrels lived in East Lansing but they refused to cross US 127 so there were no black squirrels in Lansing proper. There were even a few news stories about it, lol. I live a stone's throw away from US 127 on the Lansing side of the freeway. A few intrepid souls must have decided to cross it around 2020 because I've seen an increasing number of black squirrels in my neighborhood in the last year or two. I'm loving it. And them!

(24,021 posts)We now live in the greater Chicago area (have since 1994) and I saw one just last week. I hope to see more.
Some of what I call "our" squirrels, who frequent our patio, have snow white fur on the back of their ears. Quite pretty and very distinctive.
