16. Got it in 3 this time.

I decided to try going back to starting with the first 5-letter word that came to mind. Still tied WordleBot, but someone upthread used the bot's opening word CRANE and got it in 2! Funny that WordleBot started with CRANE, as usual, and still took 3 guesses (CRANE, HUMID, MINCE). Seems like the bot usually recommends trying to solve ASAP, and with 3 known letters, including the last letter, you'd think it would be a no-brainer for WordleBot. Hm.

20. Getting it in 2 is *always* sheer luck, and getting it in 3 usually requires good luck

I've played over 600 games on wordle-play.com using a variety of recommended starting words, and I can only remember three times in that game, and only once in the NYT game, that there was only one choice for the third guess. A good starting word is important, but it's always a probabilistic thing, and there aren't any magic words that guarantee even a 4.

22. Yes ...

... Seems like (most of the time) the opening word doesn't make a lot of difference, as long as it's not totally mindless. I seem to be averaging 4 tries, more or less, no matter what the opening is.

I guess I did have some good luck this time, although I like to think I was paying attention. I did get WordHurdle in 2 the other day!
