I tested negative for Covid on Thursday (home rapid test) but I have been sick since Tuesday and it has been getting worse, although the symptoms seem to shift.
Started w/ a stomach thing, then body/head achiness, fatigue, cough, runny nose now primarily sore throat and upper respiratory symptoms. I will do a covid test again tomorrow, but there also seems to be a run of the good old flu popping up amongst a lot of people I know.
I haven't really been sick since December of 2019, not with a viral type of illness anyway. I did get vaccinated for the flu in October along w/ my Covid booster. Just wondering if this is a local thing or widespread.

(There is a mean cold going around SoCal, though. Missed me, but got my brother.)

The Mr. is a bit sore at the injection site..otherwise not so bad.
I have had a painful response to all four Covid 19 shots.
Should only last a day or so, though.

(63,221 posts)It's not terrible, just inconvenient and kind of strange after not being sick for such a long time. Thank you for your well wishes!

(16,386 posts)Drug companies and the VRBPAC do their best to predict which strains will be prevalent in that particular year and sometimes get it wrong.
Here's a link that will tell you more than you probably want to know. I love this kind of thing, though, LOL.

Sorry if I went overboard.

(63,221 posts)not. You can never be too educated about these things.

(24,026 posts)an educated guess based on the strains that show up in the Southern Hemisphere. The flu virus has the annoying habit of mutating, and by the time it arrives in the US, the strains have often changed.

(63,221 posts)I thought it was allergies at first too, but it's definitely crossed over into "sick" territory. It will be fine, I am sure with more rest and vitamin water for hydration.

(2,015 posts)I took 3 home covid tests a few days apart each time and each one was negative. I've gotten to the point where it's more like a bad cold now.
Hope you feel better soon.

(63,221 posts)At least we aren't in the hospital, so I try to be grateful for that.

(4,512 posts)all Covid tests negative. No temp, so probably not a flu.
No idea how I got it. I wear masks indoors, wash my hands constantly.

(63,221 posts)I am still very careful as well, but we have been back in the office 2 days per week and a lot of people are out sick w/ Covid, so I'm wondering if this is just a lagging thing. I will test again tomorrow just to confirm that it's not Covid.

(50,482 posts)No COVID, but just a nagging chest cold/cough kind of thing .

(63,221 posts)Maybe not Covid, hopefully, but the flu seems to be making its way back with a vengeance.
My head just feels like a bowling ball, so heavy with congestion that I can't seem to get rid of, and the sore throat is making me not want to eat. I hope your SO feels better soon and that you don't catch anything! Stay healthy!

(1,351 posts)I literally just got home from Bay Area to look after my daughter who tested positive for flu today. Shes at school, started feeling sick yesterday and much worse today (fever, chills, cough, congestion). I told her to go to urgent care today to get quick test for flu and COVID (we were pretty sure it was flu because she just got over COVID in Februarydouble vaxxed and boosted).
Anyway, tested positive for flu, negative for COVID. Her whole soccer team is sick too. Got her some Tamiflu which she started today. That stuff has been a miracle drug every time she has had flu. Usually feels 50% better after just 24 hours and 100% better after 72 hours. (And, yes, she had flu shot).

(8,204 posts)The home tests miss 15% of positive tests, and with your symptoms starting on Tuesday, if it's covid you might miss the window for testing positive if you wait that long after the onset of symptoms.
Whatever it is, I hope you feel better soon.
Edited to add you can check how prevalent the flu is in your area here: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/usmap.htm

(63,221 posts)So I am just assuming it's a run-of-mill cold or flu. Haven't really had a temperature, but in the beginning, I felt like I had a fever just because my head and neck were so hot.

(65,179 posts)Too bad if you had to get sick, it is on Easter. I havent had a good Easter either. The electricity may be shut off soon and I cant seem to get out of this financial struggle. I have done 2 GoFundMes before on DU and people were wonderful, but I would feel super low starting a 3rd. Maybe I will do a thread sometime just asking for general advice.
Anyway, sorry to hear you arent feeling well.

(63,221 posts)And I am sorry to hear of your difficulties as well. I wish you luck and all the best!

(17,454 posts)sick last week. Feeling a bit better now, did not test for Covid, but assumed they had it.
Another person in the same household got sick this past week, home tested positive for Covid. Sinus symptoms, loss of smell which quickly returned to normal, sore throat. Feeling better now, but not 100%.
My nose runs like a faucet normally due to seasonal allergies., but it has been especially bad this week. Slight headache, did not test for Covid, but I will if symptoms worsen. I'm essentially self-quarantined anyway, and my wife is feeling good, so I'm not concerned yet.
Hope you feel better soon!

(65,179 posts)Not the stuffiness of a cold but headache and ears bothering. Probably allergies. I am fully vaccinated so might not know even if I ever got COVID. Hope your symptoms get better!

(63,221 posts)Yep, pretty much the same symptoms - Sinus, congestion symptoms, very bad sore throat, body aches in the beginning. It's still hanging on today w/ mostly throat and sinus stuff, but seems to be improving.
Thank you!

(205,798 posts)My doctor's office wouldn't see me coughing and sneezing because, you know - Covid. So I ended up in the local hospital ER for half the day and they did test me - and it's flu, "Type A," specifically. I've been on Tamiflu since Monday, not sure if it was too late to help - and yes, I had gotten my flu shot.
smirkymonkey
(63,221 posts)The more I hear from people, the more I am convinced that there is a spring flu going around and every is catching it to some degree.
Does Tamiflu work? I have never tried it but might consider keeping some around for future use. Take care of yourself!
Rhiannon12866
(205,798 posts)Though I did hear that it's "going around" and that it's taken folks awhile to get over it - like me. It's been well over a week. As for the Tamiflu, it's supposed to work fairly well, gets rid of it in fewer days, but it also needs to be taken within the first 48 hours - and since I was diagnosed on Saturday, but didn't start taking it till Monday, it may have been too late. I was offered it Saturday but I was told it had side effects, so I shrugged it off until I was offered it again Monday since I felt so miserable. But it didn't affect my digestion since I wasn't eating - and my doctor said it can cause vivid dreams, but I didn't experience that, either.
All I want to do is sleep all the time and I was already congested with a sinus issue. BTW, how's the weather where you are? When I went to take my dog out, we walked straight into winter. It's snowing out there, stuck to the trees and the ground - we're currently having a Winter Storm Watch in my neck of the woods...

Hope you are feeling better.

(5,180 posts)I think this strain is the most contagious, yet I run into quite a few people who are against the vaccine...
I wish you a speedy recovery...

(34,136 posts)The first few days I had my usualy sinusitis symptoms, runny nose, sneezing and blamed it on the pollen and controlled burns around here. It cleared up last Saturday - good thing since I had a presentation at my needlework group that was originally scheduled for two years ago.
This past week, it moved into a sore throat, light headed, and now I have an intermittent dry cough that cough suppressants haven't helped. I haven't taken one of the free COVID tests, though I suppose I should.
Because of these symptoms I have not gone in for the second booster but I did have my flu shot last fall.
