1. A lot of mixed or mangled

Metaphores that are really funny at your link. I love them. I like jokes that play on language.

The one I've been hearing a lot is "spill the beans" has turned into "spill the tea". The one is about revealing everything when the beans spill out but the other is more about what? making a mess?

But that's not near as funny as the ones you have listed.

OK, I do overthink these things.

2. Reading tea leaves

Requires you to pour out the tea from the cup with the tea left in the bottom.. Read your leaves? Maybe spilling the tea is like spilling secrets? That is messy socially.

Just a guess.

3. Mixed metaphors really rub me up the wrong tree

7. The best mixed metaphor I've heard is from George W Bush, the language mangler.

Fool me once, shame on ... [awkward pause for thought] ... you.

Fool me twice ... [awkward pause for thought] ... won't get fooled again!

If he had done this intentionally, I'd have thought he was a comic genius.

8. I overheard a teen girl in a sub shop

asking the employee how big the foot long sub was.

With a totally straight face, the employee said, "12 inches."
