OK - I am playing the wordplay practice game and the answer is BEZEL

a word I have never heard of.

Normally at the end of. the game you get a definition - but not for bezel.

So I click on to to take me to the dictionary - which has no definition.

Anyone ever heard of BEZEL?

noun
a grooved ring holding the glass or plastic cover of a watch face or other instrument in position.
a groove holding the crystal of a watch or the stone of a gem in its setting

I’ve heard of the bezel on a watch, though unless you’re a watch collector, it’s not very common anymore

A sort of setting for cabochon stones (domed on one side, flat on the other). Kind of a thin metal collar the stone fits in, that is then burnished down over its edges to hold it in place against a backing.

It also is a part that helps to hold on the front of an (older-style) personal computer.

I grew up knowing the word, but I read a whole lot.

Wordles with Z in them are the worst.

It hides the very edges of the CRT or LCD panel, which the user doesn't need to see.

Often, the bezel is on, or includes, a bevel.
