I had a really tough day at work. I'm home and I've already started my personal Friday festivities (2 shots of Beam and 4 beers so far). So, I'm going to poke the DU bear.
Why is it that when someone deletes their own post (for whatever reason) it shows as "this post was self-deleted by its author?" That's redundant. It should read as, "this post was deleted by its author" or "this post was self-deleted."
I just notice things like that. It's a quirk. Sorry... I'll, uh... leave now.

(17,443 posts)I believe that it is worded that way because self-deleted could mean the post deleted itself and we need to know it was the author that deleted it.
Mr. Evil
(2,845 posts)it says "this post was deleted."
Self-deleted is self explanatory. By it's author is not necessary.
I was just trying to inject a little levity as a distraction from the horrific shit in Ukraine and all the mass shootings here.
after another G&T I'm not so sure. I guess a post is unlikely to pass the Turing test so it couldn't realize self in order to self-delete but by adding the author we can be certain.
The phrase is indeed redundant, repetitive, and duplicative to name a few.
If you're a female I respect you and want to marry you. If you're a male I respect you.

Mr. Evil
(2,845 posts)Self-deleted automatically means that it was deleted by its author.
With everything that is going on in this incredibly stupid world, I was just trying to be humorous. By definition, it is redundant.
Your reply, "Not that I would" signifies that you get it and you're just poking me... Ouch!

FOR SALE BY NEIGHBOR
FOR SALE BY THIEF
FOR SALE BY RELATIVE

(12,870 posts)Mine is "looser" or "loose" when it should be loser or lose. I see the misuse of "oo" so often in this context that I don't believe it's a mere typo.
Loose rhymes with juice.
Lose rhymes with booze.
More of the latter, please.

Thanks Monty.
Mr. Evil
(2,845 posts)loose rhymes with noose.
lose rhymes with booze (which I know all about!)
My pet peeve is that yea rhymes with nay. Rhymes with bay.
Yay is technically not a word. It's accepted but, not technically a word.
Thanx for having a sense of humor!

(17,444 posts)Every single website MUST comply by the rules established by "Bureau of Internet Redundancy Bureau".
Not just DU, but EVERY website must comply.
The founders of this legislative body, in the 1990's, established the "Internet Constitution of the Internet" in the 1990's.
As documented in this document, violation of any of any rules contained in this document can result in various form forms of punishment that will apply punishment to the violator.
Forms of punishment that are available to the Bureau include many different forms of punishment including:
1) Very high monetary fines that are monetarily very high.
2) Imprisonment and confinement of the website owner, who may be imprisoned or confined.
