(31,518 posts)As I recall, some advised getting the same vaccine and others advised to mix them. I don't know that anyone came up with proof one way or the other.

(2,886 posts)the 2nd booster was Pfizer...from my county health dept...two of the nurses there said it was thought to be more effective this way...the Pfizer booster had more side effects for me than any of the previous Moderna shots...felt lethargic and sore arm for 3 days...

(23,690 posts)I heard that reported a couple of times when the the 2nd boosters was first being encouraged. Haven't heard anything since, except that it's safe to get a different booster.

(17,444 posts)The last credible thing I read before I received my second booster suggested to stick with the same "flavor", so to speak.
So that's what I did...4 Pfizers.

(16,244 posts)No problems but if I was a betting woman, Id say a booster once a year like our flu shots are in the future. Im good with that as time and the science will give us better data.

I certainly do not have any objection at all to an annual COVID booster.
After all, I have been getting an annual flu shot for years

(29,251 posts)As in, he thought it might be helpful, but the research was not all in. This was around the time of the first booster. The thought was that it could improve the range.

(5,270 posts)Protection from both Pfizer and Moderna is relatively equivalent so whichever one folks took before with no bad side effects, they should just take again but Johnson/Johnson's lowered effectiveness plus serious and even some fatal blood clotting side effects indicated safest bet for Johnson folks is either Pfizer or Moderna for boosters.
But mixing Pfizer and Moderna has only a possible speculative benefit but not definitely recommended.

But for people who got Pfizer or Moderna, it doesn't matter if they stay with the same brand or mix them.
All mine have been Moderna.

(22,789 posts)you started with the one shot Johnson & Johnson, then you can take Moderna or Pfizer for a booster.

My 2 and first booster were Moderna ... and before the first booster Walgreens finally got around to publishing the entire ingredients lists, and Pfizer has an ingredient I'm allergic to, and Moderna doesn't.
Can't remember now what it is. But I definitely remember noticing it.

EDIT: I called em up. (Had to schedule a shingles vaccine anyway.) They originally had Moderna, Pfizer, and J&J, but now they only have the first two.

(12,862 posts)Pfizer to Moderna. No issues.
I also read that Moderna was more potent than Pfizer.
It's not true. You don't have to switch. You can if you want to.
I got all four Modernas.

(70,706 posts)Was all Pfizer before. They only had Moderna/interchangeable. So their rationale wasn't addressing the OP's question, only about availability, all other things being equal.

(1,331 posts)We discovered the grocery store had boosters and so we decided to get the second booster right then and there, before I had time to investigate the deal with getting a different kind. I decided there may be some sense to it (they are the teensiest bit different and so you get some little molecule you didn't have before?? ) and that I didn't see how it could do harm, so we went with Pfizer after being straight Moderna before.

(3,414 posts)The one dose vaccine. Moderna or Pfizer is recommended for them. Also, I received my 4th dose of Pfizer on Monday. Same as before, my only side effects were a tiredness and a sore arm for just a day. I'm gonna stay with what works for me.
