My domain mail is @comcast.net
This is how Xfinity/Comcast communicate with me, to tell me that the my is ready, to thank me for my payment and, of course, to tell me about increase in rates. Last year I was notified that the only way to pay was online.
It also texts me for two steps authentication.
But yesterday I found an email in my Yahoo account notifying me that I will have to download their "app" to continue communicating with them.
This really pisses me because it assumes that every subscriber has a "smartphone."
I got mine last year when spouse was going to have a major operation and I needed a better way to communicate with family and friends beyond my old Tracphone flip phone. Last fall spouse got one, too, because this is the only way to view the navigation map on the new Rav4 hybrid. Also, our flip phones were G3 (I think that this is the correct term) and would no longer be usable. And, no Xfinity is not the carrier. We use Consumer Cellular.
But do Xfinity/Comcast subscribers have to own a "smartphone?" We have had several discussions on these pages when many DUers did not have one, and some were forced to get one be able to communicate with their financial institutions.
Do individuals with no "smartphones" should just disappear from the face of the earth?
I am tempted to complain to the state AG.

question everything
(47,487 posts)Yes, I am paying for a phone that I do not use. Some years ago was the only way to get a decent rate, which I am going to renegotiate in July and will remove it.
But I don't have one and certainly do not use it. I think that once when I asked I was kinda surprised to see it posted.

(102,292 posts)you received and ask how that impacts you as well as alternatives if you choose NOT to have a smart cell phone.
It appears to me to be a very limited impact, but I have regular Xfinity wifi and streaming tv service, use my own modem/router, and thus don't use Xfinity xfi. Good luck.

I guess I will have to wait and see.
This is what it says:
As of June 7, 2022, the Xfinity xFi website found at internet.xfinity.com will no longer be available. But dont worry your service is not changing. All the features of Xfinity xFi are available right from the palm of your hand with the Xfinity app.
Once the website is retired on June 7, 2022, you will be unable to adjust any of your WiFi settings, pause WiFi, or use other existing parent control settings unless you download the free Xfinity app.

I do not use any of these services so I hope it will not matter

(102,292 posts)The email language you included is not saying the general account features are going away on their website.. only that the xfi options are going away (I don't have that, only streaming basic through their roku app and wifi).
Xfi is a more specific package.

(23,350 posts)... I bet there's an app for that.
If you don't have a smartphone, you don't completely disappear. Federal and State tax collectors know where you are.
