(17,006 posts)is fascinating. They twist their body and spread their limbs like a flying squirrel. If they arent high enough up they dont have time to twist.

(20,192 posts)I had a big orange tabby that had started climbing a tree outside my apartment patio. He kept climbing up and up, because he couldn't get back down. He ended up on the roof of the 3rd story. I was on the ground floor. It was hot, and he just laid there, looking down. I was afraid he would get heat stroke, so I called a "critter getter" to come get him. The guy climbed a LONG ladder to the roof. My cat moved away from him. At that point, I was more scared for the guy. I told him to nudge the cat with his pole, an the cat leapt from roof, spreading his legs out like a flying squirrel. He landed in the grass and took off like a bat out of hell.
I left my patio door open, and a couple of hours later he sauntered in, very thirsty, but otherwise fine.
And she had the presence of mind to tell the other guy to "get back"!

Every pet owner's worst nightmare is something bad happening to their furry friend, and one woman's heart was left in her mouth after her dog jumped out of a window. But thankfully, she used some quick-thinking initiative in the shocking situation.
Rachel Green, from Hawkinge, Kent, was receiving a parcel when she noticed an upstairs window opening.
In doorbell footage, the owner looks up and shouts up at the dog to get back, but by this time it's too late and she's already fallen out of the window.
Luckily, Rachel manages to make it over in time and catches the free falling pooch just before she hits the ground.
Speaking to LADbible about the heart-stopping moment, she said lockdown and working from home seems to have taken its toll on her dog, who she's noticed has become 'clingy'.
"Shes never done that before and shes six, so it was a bit of a shock," Rachel told us.
"Shes always been an independent dog but I guess shes become clingy since the pandemic/WFH and always wants to be by my side. I just didnt realise how far shed go to do that.
"The windows were shut but she managed to push one wide open, I only noticed she was there because the suns reflection on the window/wall moved and caught my eye when it opened."
Rachel said that her dog was 'lucky' not to have suffered any serious injuries.
"Main thing is, my dog is absolutely fine and suffered nothing more than a sore leg for a couple of hours. Lucky!" she added.

(205,420 posts)My dog is pretty short, so I pick him up to put him on the porch when we're going inside and he likes to leap out of my arms, but I'm prepared for it so he only "flies" for a couple of feet...
Thanks for posting the story...
