The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI am having one of those days when I bounce back and forth between being exhilarated by
the magnitude of all there is to learn and being crushed by the magnitude of all that I do not and never will know.
Right now I am feeling awfully puny and leaning towards "crushed".
I either think too much or not well enough.

(115,872 posts)Yes, it can also be a cesspool, but I sure wish it existed when I was a kid. These days I find something interesting, then chase link after link, and while it's obvious I don't know squat about an awful lot of things, at least I can keep trying.

(9,906 posts)I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge, and cruise the links in DU for general info (albeit mostly political) and hacker news (https://news.ycombinator.com/newest) for all the tech links you can imagine, plus a few VC and conservative asshole links, which I gleefully skip over).
The point is that I can dig into something I might use (I love homebrew electronic gadgets, and really need to know about computer security), and share optical engineering stuff with friends in the industry, and get the gist of pretty much everything else.
In "real life", I use DU to post GOTV kinds of things, and some fun stuff, and focus on my hobbies, which could keep me busy 25 hours a day, but I keep them in check. mostly.
Part of my strategy is to RARELY click on videos, which require extended attention. One can let their "short attention span" work in their favor. Skim to get the big picture, and drill down ONLY if it's pertinent or "can't resist".
So's the theory. I am replying in the hope that I can help what seems to be a fellow infovore.
