Blue girl in a red state we are turning purple. If favor of wearing masks and getting vaxed. Advocate for the mixing of the generations as opposed falling for the Right's divide and conquer method.
Been active on Twitter for years. Tried a couple other discussion boards over the years. Have lurked here from time to time. This site looks extremely well planned and designed. Still stumbling my way around, checking it out.
Am an old woman, lifelong liberal with progressive leanings. Have lived in rural America, urban America, suburban America, the beach, inland mountain, and the desert southwest. I really think we need to build bridges between those worlds so the populations have a better understanding of how the other groups live and how our various interests need to be considered. Fighting between the populations only serves the powers pushing the Right's agenda.
Got me a big dog, a pair of old cats, and a rocking chair. Putter a bit in the garden, but scaled down my efforts due to old age, which sorta sucks, but beats the alternative. Interested in herbs, comedy, some sci-fi and nature. Used to hike and miss it now.
Any-who, glad to meet you folks. Looking forward to learning from everybody and maybe offer some questions, resources, insights and observations that are useful.

We have a German shepherd/mastiff cross. He's a real treat.
Welcome to the forum!

(2,190 posts)Or, as my mom's favorite old veterinarian would say, "An AMERICAN dog". She is either part St Bernard or part Great Pyrenees, there's a lot of the latter crosses around my area. Funny thing is, she REALLY dislikes cold, damp weather, so there might be some Chihuahua in her. Lots of those in my hood too.
Love all dogs, but oh, those big breeds! Sweet, funny, smart. Those big brain cases hold a lot of dog wonders, don't they?
Thanks for the welcome. Give your gentle giant a scritch for me!

(15,124 posts)Figured he might get to 50 lbs. First trip to the vet? "You do realize that he's part Great Dane, don't you?"
Oops.
77 pounds of big black and white love. Sweet, funny and smart.
Welcome to DU.

(2,190 posts)First time I saw the dog, they were walking out of the shelter. One look at that pup's rear legs and gait told me the young man was in for a Great Dane sized surprise. LOL
But yeah, probably not a sweeter, gentler critter alive than a Dane.
Thanks for the wave. Back at ya!

(21,107 posts)I can't wait to read it. A fascinating story.
DFW
(54,410 posts)I must have read that story about 150 times through when I was a kid.
Sredni Vashtar went forth,
His thoughts were red thoughts and his teeth were white.
His enemies called for peace, but he brought them death.
Sredni Vashtar the Beautiful.
Such a being must be taken quite seriously!

If you survived the suburbs, more power to you. That's one cultural milieu I always found spiky and impenetrable. I coped with a rural area, big cities, and a couple of small towns. Suburbs? No way in hell, get me out of here!
Welcome to DU. Three things are necessary in politics: a good bullshit detector, a thick skin, and a sense of humor. You're responsible for the first two. You can pick up your complimentary rubber chicken in the lobby.

(11,477 posts)I have a golden retriever and a rag doll kitty who is older and rules the house. I came here in 2004 while working on Kerry campaign and never left. I mostly read learned a lot here through the years.
Hope you enjoy. We are a big range of folks from very progressive to more moderate. I am more on the progressive side. But like you I have lived in red rural areas and we do need to learn to have conversations.
I live now in a city of 85K which is about 60/40 with the 60 being Republican. I feel it's very important for democrats if they can stand it to live among the other side. That said I also have a progressive college town only 20 min away I hang at a lot 😛

(14,915 posts)Life long NYC'r but have visited the 💖 high desert of Arizona, and up into The 💖 Rockies west of Denver.
And other 💖 cities I've been interested in.
Both countrysides so awesome, and wonderous;each in their own unique way! Have blessed to have visited both!
(plus the palm trees, and teal 💖 waters of the San Juan PR area)
Relative newbie coming up on 2 years very soon.
The Rock band (w progressive leanings) site that has a political off topic section wasn't active enough during the 2020 election!
I remembered this site's from when I saw it back in ? '01, and googled it up and there it was! 👍🙂
