(Not directed to Lounge: ) - This love song is not to you.

Didja ever have somebody smitten on you who was definitely *not* invited, reciprocated, encouraged by you?

It was in the '90s at work back during the Bill/LEWINSKY affair, when not only was sex in the White House shocking (as if it had never happened there before), but also definitely BJ(s). We knew about JFK but somehow it didn't register, like he had a special dispensation. We didn't really know about EISENHOWER and LBJ, certainly not about Poppy BUSH. But I digress.

It was at work. I was in my late 40s and a supervisor who had hired and trained a dozen or so staff. This one person was about 24, bright and ambitious. I already had 20 years under my belt with tons of dues paid, will say very clear about keeping work and play totally separate. I went to Happy Hours with my office mates, no hanky panky. Sometimes there would be buzz about somebody or other getting it on, at work not at Happy Hour. Shockingly *NOW* sometimes it happened in plain view at the workplace, an Administrator with his steno on his lap in the Breakroom, regularly. Yip, and we others in the room chatted away, nobody "noticing". But I digress.

So in my case, this 24-yr old landed on the beach ready to invade. In those days we all had monthly conferences with our supervisors with the door closed. The Bill LEWINSKY thing had already broken, so that kind of thing was already in the air and was apparently in the "permission" stage with the younger employees. So in the conferences we sat in two chairs facing each other, everybody in chairs with rolling casters. My desk was against the wall so this 24 and I were on the same side of the floor.

So in one particular conference this 24 rolled her chair right up to me, almost touching knees. I rolled away a bit. She rolled again. I was shocked to notice but don't think I showed it on my face. Now I see it as a ridiculous form of the cliche of literally "chasing around the desk." But I digress.

So at a Happy Hour, it was our own work group, them mostly in their 20s, and some of them were dancing. I stayed seated and not interacting on an age peer level, just as a sort of a chaperone gris level. And the 24 stayed seated nearby, not dancing. I was used to her sort of always hanging around, and I ignored her while others were dancing. So this went on, drink and songs going by. And then the jukebox played a song of mine, one of those really big hits of mine, and BECAUSE OF THE SONG, I got up and asked her to dance, NOT because of her, just that she was there, nobody else at the table.

And she said, "Finally." To which I add NOW: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The thought crossed my mind, "This song is not for you."

She went on with her 1990s *NETWORKING*, the t.v. Survivor thing of "alliances" and I didn't know what the game was. Eventually she wrote me off as a target, setting her sights on MY bosses, who were not so scrupulous or Puritan as I, and her career progressed nicely: Supervisor in 3 years (took me 15 of crawling up tiny steps), and in 5 years she was the *TOP* boss/Administrator.

When all was done and I retired I figured out that workplace sex was a lubricant, if you will, that had been going on forever. I still wouldn't have done things any other way, am just glad it's all over.

Lives are ruined by it daily. Monica Lewinsky and Clinton will live with the public slur of it the rest of their lives.

along. I defended Bill to the ground on the grounds of partisanship, but without admitting to wingnuts I was disgusted by him. And I even/back then had SCORN for *BOTH* of them for frittering away our Democratic precious time in power. All that ENERGY AND TIME, funneled ONLY into defending him/ONE person, all taken away from working on the Democratic AGENDA.

And MY lesson I took from it was that I would never again put my allegiance on a PERSONAL IDOL WORSHIP level. I worship the Democratic *AGENDA*, not a particular leader, whom I judge on the basis of EFFECTIVENESS in pushing the Democratic AGENDA, whether in leaps or in increments.

That's why ever since I have continued to totally support and vote and defend Democratic leaders but will not succumb to personality worship - NOBODY, including OBAMA whom I like personallly TONS.

And back then in the '90s, with me rolling my chair away I often wondered why Bill didn't roll himself away. Is it that sense, "rules", ethics/whatever are just for CHUMPS, as Tim RUSSERT (aka, "a-hole" ) said about idealists?

*** ON EDIT: Two quotes::

* Kathy BATES as Libby HOLDEN in Primary Colors, at the end when Bill has survived the campaign scandals, paraphrase: "We saved you. Don't break our hearts (again)." *** Of course, he *DID*.

* Ann RICHARDS, paraphrase: "He's not the first man (who f****d around, broke hearts), and he won't be the last."
