The ocean said nothing, it just waved.

I remember one that I found side-splittingly funny from that earlier time:
Q: What did the big flower say to the little flower?
A: Hi, Bud.

I spent my early childhood along the shore, it was a local staple in first grade.

(3,707 posts)There was a little wave, gently lapping at the secluded, sandy beach shores in times of yore.
The little wave felt so small and limited and unworthy of the name. The wave ionged to be like the big breakers that people rode.
Or perhaps to be a super wave like a tsunami, a wave feared by all. But no, the wave, salty with its own tears, just felt small.
The wave worshiped the ocean.
However one day, this Indian Ocean wave was washing the feet of a saddhu, a sage, a guru, and decided to ask, "What is my nature? Why am I unhappy?"
The Guru asked, "What are you made of?"
"Water, sir, salty water."
"What is the big wave made of?"
"It is the ocean sir."
"And of what is the vast ocean made?"
"Water, sir, salty water"
"You are that water, nothing else. You are non-different from all other waves.
"You are that very vast, deep ocean that covers the earth."
From then on the wave was happy to everywhere wash the shores that the depths can never know, and no longer felt limited, small and unworthy.
