Nearly 1,000 Tibetan Mastiffs, once known as the world's most expensive dog breed, have been abandoned in China after breeding centres ran out of business and closed down.

These canines, each of which could fetch as much as £1million in the past, were rescued by an animal shelter after they had been found deserted on the streets of Yushu prefecture, Qinghai Province, according to Chinese media.

Tibetan Mastiffs used to be a status symbol among China's wealthy and powerful, but demand has waned in recent years which was thought to be caused by China's anti-corruption campaigns and an oversupply in the breed.

Was that guy avoiding that dog? I would have been rolling around on the ground hugging and wrestling with him.
