I had Covid back in December. Relatively mild, including temporary taste and smell loss.
I can pretty much taste everything now, with some variations. Coffee tastes particularly bitter. Most bottled marinara sauces taste off. I think its the various herbs. I made a rice and peas dish the other night and found it unpalatable. True, I could have fucked it up, but I think it was the seasonings, run of the mill stuff. Couldnt stand the dish.
Sweets are fine, like ice cream and cookies. Cereal and milk is fine but yogurt seems not quite right. Something is also not quite the same with sauerkraut. Meat is okay. Chicken not quite the same. Cottage cheese okay but cheeses seem too salty. My eife made chili last week an I made red beans and rice. They were okay enough but I couldnt stomach the leftovers.
Anyone experience this? Its just very weird and annoying.

(14,918 posts)sense of taste remained largely intact, I also found that it was slightly "off". Tea and colas were unpleasantly bitter. I ordered some Pedialyte powder online and was surprised at how salty it tasted. Sense of smell recovered within a few weeks. I sometimes question whether it ever recovered 100%, but it's functional and there's really no way to test it. Same for taste...something will seem unexpectedly bitter or just not as intense.

(4,919 posts)I caught COVID in May 2020, and later I became a member of the "COVID-19 Long-Haulers Discussion" group on Facebook. It's a very well moderated, private group... And, there is a lot of discussion about the symptoms you are having, and many others. Previous posts are archived and you can search by topic. Lots of inspiration and frustration from those who suffer.
Just a suggestion for you and others who want a good resource about managing or coping with long-COVID issues.

(21,485 posts)According to a British study, there are visible changes in the brain among covid long haulers who have changes in taste after covid. The changes are in the areas of the brain that control taste and smell.
