(49,006 posts)which is why I post these. I have YouTube's algorithms to thank for finding most of these, since they pop up when I look at YouTube, most often while eating lunch.
If I find myself laughing out loud at something often enough that I have to stop eating to avoid choking, I figure it should be shared here.

(49,006 posts)My last cat was terrified of storms, too, and preferred to hide under the kitchen counter. I finally gave him one section of the lower cabinets to keep him from climbing over everything in the other sections.

(11,428 posts)He'd be sleeping on the couch and wake up and watch nothing pass between two rooms the same way as if it was me walking by. About a year ago he got the heebie-jeebies bad. Didn't want to spend anytime inside, just hide out under the shed. If he came in he would get long and low to the ground with a wild eyed look, slink to his dish grab a bite and then sprint back out. This went on for about a week and then it was over and he was back to his normal cat self. There was no fireworks or thunder or construction noise. It was really weird.
I wonder if I need to smudge the house?

(49,006 posts)most of us who live with cats have had that happen. Their hearing is better than ours, I believe, though I'm not sure they're always just reacting to something they're hearing.
I wouldn't worry (let alone smudge the house) because your cat was acting in such a strange way a year ago.
Did you by any chance have company then who might have scared your cat badly, even if very briefly, so he'd be watching out for them for a while? Or maybe you had a friend or relative's pet there that would have had your cat terrorized and he didn't feel safe till he was sure that pet wouldn't be returning? My aunt has a cat who spends part of her time outdoors (uses the dog door; they also have two dogs) who'll stay away completely, sometimes for days, if friends or relatives are visiting with dogs that are less friendly to cats.
