I've read The Handmaid's Tale" and "The Testaments" - both are excellent books. Yes, she did see this all coming!

I do have Hulu and had started doing some binge watching of the series but took a break and need to get back to it. I know she was involved in that series.

but as I understand, Atwood wanted that level of detail in there to establish that dystopian grimness.

In comparison, the movie was more a distillation of the storyline and concepts, plus an intro to the characters, so I think it made it easier for me to start up with the series after having watched the film years earlier (although sometimes it was hard to not try to do a compare and contrast).

But I'll bet she'd be happy to have a proper conversation with you about why she thinks that. And if presented with a good counter argument she may be persuaded to change her mind.

For all the good that has come from the insight provided by her writing, I won't hold that view against her even though I am an atheist and completely disagree.

I don't think I could hold my own in a debate with her though.

She started writing in the 60’s and has been very prolific. Some of my favorites - Cat’s Eye, Surfacing, Bodily Harm, and Lady Oracle. I’ve read most of her early books 5 or 6 times over the last 40 or so yrs. Great short stories too - one is about all the young people killing the people in old folks homes for ruining the planet..
