As Benny Goodman is notably nostalgic but (my choice) Janis Joplin was 'one-of-a-kind' as was Jimi Hendrix.

If I had to choose, it would probably be Benny, since listening to Janis with my own damaged vocal chords gives me sympathy pains (although I've read that her type of singing need not damage the cords.

Saw her at West Palm Pop Festival and she was the highlight of the show for me. Jefferson Airship was there and so were the Stones, Santana and so many excellent groups - but Janis was the best!! Her ability to weave the days happenings into her music were amazing, she was so sharp!!

I just got a two CD set of Benny Goodman performing at Carnegie Hall in 1938. Not the best sound quality, but certainly listenable.

I spend hours on Youtube watching and listening to old music performances, such as the Lomax field recordings for the Smithsonian. Just amazing stuff, all available in the comfort of home at the push of a button, and mostly for free.

Like the greatest international museum of music and the arts ever.
