Just a wild guess......

I built a cat-whisker crystal radio when I was a little boy in the 50s and first time I heard WSM or WLAC out of Nashville from an old earpiece, I thought it was a miracle.

Music is just so inconvenient to listen to otherwise ?

We haven't yet filled every waking hour with factory-produced background musical 'filler' to distract ourselves from everything else we need to do ?

The benefits are marginal, but well worth the risk of complicated neurosurgery and the usual reliability factor of new hardware and software ?

Please, enlighten me.

It was called “The President’s Analyst,” and it ended up that this was EXACTLY what TPC had in mind to do with every person in America—implant a chip in everyone’s brain. “Billing would be automatic.”

That film was meant to be a total spoof, but in retrospect, it turned out to be incredibly prescient.
