(22,174 posts)(in the early 1980s), and we discovered a Great Snowy While Owl, he/she was frozen on the top strand of a barbed wire fence. We notified the conservation department (we were right next to a state park, state conservation district in MO), and I had never seen employees move so fast when we told them of the Owl frozen on the barbed wire. They were there on the spot racing through the woods enroute to where the Owl was. I do hope (I never did discover) that the Owl recovered etc.
It was such a beautiful creature, I was so lucky to have seen one up close (but not in this way, in distress). It was a pretty cold spell, and the only reason we were out was simply to follow animal tracks as it had just snowed, a good time to track the different critters.

And the way the owl calmed down after the glue trap was removed is remarkable.
