(115,808 posts)The fact that everyone survived was attributable to the captain's stopping the airplane quickly; that there were a number of off-duty flight attendants on board who helped with the evacuation; and the prompt arrival of ARFF personnel who were able to substantially extinguish the fire within minutes. It was an accident that never should have happened in the first place. The use of the term "miracle" suggests that something supernatural was involved, and it wasn't. It was just a bunch of people doing their jobs and responding appropriately to an emergency.

(115,808 posts)but allowed so many others to die in accidents? I used to teach this stuff - aircraft emergency procedures and accident investigation. I know a lot about it. Blowing off passengers' surviving an accident like this as a "miracle" is, to me, disrespectful of the people who work hard to prevent accidents and those who respond to accidents when they do occur - sometimes at the risk of their own lives. Not to mention the people who didn't get a "miracle."

( Even if you think this is a bad opinion based on.... whatever)
Thank You for your response

(3,629 posts)It's so easy to get sidetracked by these christofascists that we forget that for most Christians, God does not involve itself in such daily things nowadays, regardless of what the Bible says. The sentiment is that the rescuers were able to get there in time, do their job, and get out without the plane exploding or whatever else might have happened.
I am an atheist and I can sympathize with that reaction. Yay for everybody, the victims lived.
