(68,643 posts)Lucky...first words out of my hubby's mouth...no we don't need a dog. It goes to the pound. The kids ignored him. NO dog ever went to the pound in our house. Two minutes later the dog jumps into hubs lap and licks his face (smart dog). The dog slept in our bed that night and every night of his life unless the kids locked him in their rooms. One of the best dogs we ever had...heinz57-loved everyone. A burglar might trip over him...maybe. But he was a polite dog and would likely move out of the way.

(17,318 posts)Ran into the cutest small dog while walking in the mall this morning. The mall opens 1.5 hrs before the stores and is perfect for walking during the hot summers. Dogs are welcome. Turns out this little fella was a 3 yr old rescue. His people were starting to socialize him. I asked if would be okay to pet him and they said yes, but he had had some kind of bad situation in the past they were told. I slowly knelt down and he cam right over for me to pet him. He was adorable until I went to stand up and he got spooked and nipped/bit my leg. Poor little fella, so good he is now in a good home and hopefully will settle in. I tried not to wince or hobble away so his new family wouldnt feel bad. Ah, sometimes the price you pay to interact with a little cutie!

(68,643 posts)the second owner was abusive...when we got her you couldn't pick her up or she would likely bite you. She had been sent back a couple of times. The first day we had her she bit my husband...but little by little with lots of love, hand feeding, treats and time she came to trust us...and now she is an amazing little dog who loves everyone. I take her to PetSmart and she sits like a princess and accepts her pets from folks...loves kids. She was just afraid which often is the case with aggressive dogs or even cats.

(4,079 posts)I stopped for gas with my kids and a couple of their friends in the car. A young woman comes up to me and asks, "This is gonna sound like a weird question, but...do you want a kitten?"
I said, "Yeah, that's a weird question."
She explained that she had to drive several hours that evening to a different town, but found this kitten in the road and was afraid it would get hit by a car. She was going to take it to the Humane Society, but she said she saw me with my kids and thought we might take her. We did.
We spent a few weeks looking for the owner, but never found one.
That was about ten years ago. Her name is Quantum. This is one of my favorite pics of her...
