(8,781 posts)First sign I might be getting a UTI, I take a teaspoon in water and the feeling goes away in 20 minutes for me. If you still feel one coming on take 4 teaspoons or more a day. Read the thousands of star reviews on Amazon. I posted two different brands mostly so you can read the reviews. You get more dmannose in the powdered form than pills. Ive used both of these and both work. These 2 have the most reviews of all the dmannose offered on Amazon. On and off I had interstitial cystitis for yrs until I found d mannose. Drinking tons of water plus marshmallow root helps big time too.

(20,267 posts)Just received some natural supplements to prevent UTIs, but if I'm affected already, I need treatment then latch onto this supplement preventative.

(297,764 posts)I've had it and still keeping it at bay.
This looks like what I might need for a more permanent solution.
My pendulum said it would be good.
What exactly is it.. never heard of it before? Thank you!

(20,267 posts)Unfortunately, Cipro was the only one having an effect after going along with those others prescribed.

(14,961 posts)a good few weeks. Enough for me to remember, I would make sure I never took it again and wishing I had my UTI back and just continued the AZO pills and living with orange pee.(I realize that isn't a good idea, but I was so miserable.) The thing is, I had taken Cipro at least 2 other times in the past 20 years and was fine.
That was in 2017. I just had a UTI in April, I made sure to let my new Dr. know about my past experience. He prescribed antibiotics that were yellow and black capsules, with a complicated name, they worked fine, not as fast acting as the Cipro, but well worth not going through that misery again.

(14,961 posts)thankful not to be sick like I was on Cipro, I may have ignored or passed any side effects as residual from the UTI.

(206,176 posts)I felt rotten, stopped at my doctor's for Urgent Care hours, but as soon as I said I was "congested," they sent me home and and would only talk to me over the phone! I do not have Covid, I have had 4 vaccine shots and just can't breathe through my nose, it's sinus. They prescribed 2 meds, but that was 2 weeks ago and I feel just the same. Hope you have better results...

I started taking one with my daily vitamins when I decided to start taking daily vitamins - when I turned 60. Nine years later, havent had a single UTI since.

My mom took those, never got UTIs when she took them. And a friend had a doctor recommend these, but taken at twice the usual dose, 4 capsules a day instead of two.
It's also always a good idea to avoid sugar if you get UTIs.
And always make sure your doctor knows what supplements you're taking, in case any interact with any meds you're on.

(20,267 posts)I first got them in the 70's. Substitute doc when mine was away, scared the living outta me when I said I didn't finish the previous complete course of meds.
He goes: "Do you want to have renal failure or go on dialysis?"
70's--the last time I had it until 2011.
Called the EMS on myself. Had no symptoms, but felt like I was fixin' to die.

(20,267 posts)Had almost full saline drip. Doc almost gave me Cipro IV that I mentioned in review of hospital treatment I had November when it was really bad. But I asked for oral. Cipro IV too industrial strength. He was iffy on the culprits causing concern this time, but did write an Rx for 7 days of oral Cipro.
