1. A continental divide is a drainage divide on a continent

such that the drainage basin on one side of the divide feeds into one ocean or sea, and the basin on the other side either feeds into a different ocean or sea, or else is endorheic, not connected to the open sea. Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continental_divide

3. No. It's based on watersheds & on whether rivers flow into the Pacific or Atlantic Ocean.

There are other divides, too, but I assume you mean the one that runs through the Americas.

We live on the Pacific side. Over the mountain is the Gulf side.

When I felt the earthquake I wondered if we were on a fault as well.

5. The North American Continental Divide is a fault line, more or less.
