My grandma was born just after the earthquake.

I can imagine my great grandparents as young people on that street.

My great grandfather was a dreamer. The dairy industry paid his bills but he was fascinated by airplanes, automobiles, and movies.

When it came to investing he wasn't good at picking out who the winners would be in those industries. (Advice for all those of us who could've bought shares in Apple...)

My grandma and her sister, following after their father's dreams, didn't want anything to do with cows or dairymen and landed in Hollywood, which became an epicenter of airplanes, automobiles, and movies. They didn't appreciate San Francisco at all, there was no magic there for them.

My wife and I both have family in San Francisco. It's one of my favorite cities.

If I wasn't such a California kid, and I was choosing a city to live in independent of family or work considerations, I'd probably pick Chicago.
