So, I'm an IDOT volunteer, pick up all kinds of YEESCH daily during the season, and the occasional weird. 2 weeks ago, I picked up a Social Security card, went 50 feet, same person's debit card, then a little later a diploma for a course, then obvious family photos. So, Since this stuff is private, and since it's also important, I tried to contact the person via FB, and since I don't have an account, I had to use a friends account.
Sent a message, no response. then, today, I got online and did some serious hunting, and found who I THINK maybe the person in question and sent a text, explaining the deal and would she please return a text so I can get her the credentials safely. NO dice. This seriously pisses me off. Usually, people will jump at the chance to retrieve their wallet, credit cards, etc. Not this one though. I'll give it till Monday, then it's gonna be shredded.
Unless you have a better Idea. Mind you, this would be the 15th find & return since March for me, including keys, wallets and cash. You thoughts would be most appreciated.

(86,646 posts)A very bad experience that led to those things being where you fond them and asking for a contact after finding them mike freak this person out. They may not trust your explanation.
Best thing to do is take the stuff to the local police and tell them your story and let them make the contact. Might be the only method acceptable to the person.

(86,646 posts)But even so, the thing I would suggest is;
Use the most likely address on one of the IDs and place everything in a nice mailer from the USPS, include a note telling the person of your efforts and how you came upon the stuff and offer some nice thing to say. Wrap it up and send it to the address you think will get to the person. You can include your address in case they wish to contact you, perhaps thank you after seeing your intent was sincere.
That would be the good Samaritan thing to do. Wrap it up, send it with explanation and forget it.

(4,175 posts)It's somebody's DEBIT card, and Soc Sec card, so I'll wait till next week, and then just mail those items back to the Soc Sec Office and Visa. Safety is #1! Thanks.
