1. I have always considered this song to be about the pairing of life and death

A life well-lived, that "rock(s) your gypsy soul" until "that fog horn whistle blows" and we "sail into the mystic."

2. I was 16 and my friend was 15. She and I were hanging out in a camper van

in her driveway when her older brother played Into the Mystic. I knew immediately that it was special- the singer and the song.

I’m 70 now, and Beverly died last month. Fortunately, after searching for her for years but spelling her last name wrong, I got to have a conversation with her at the start of Covid. One of the things I told her was how my life long love of Van started on that day. I have never heard this song without thinking of her brilliant smile.
