It finally happened. I'm tracing it back to last Tuesday at a doctor's office (eye) that does not require masks of all staff and patients. Every other medical office we attend requires masks of staff and patients or you're not allowed in. My 70-yr-old SO has it now, too. After over two years of vigilance. We're both vaxxed and boosted.
I'm very distressed, and am calling their office to complain. The nature of eye exams calls for it close , in-your- face exam. We never go out. That's the only place we were. I'm so angry with myself. I feel I let us down
I have a mild case. Sore throat, sneezing, runny nose. No fever. Seem to still have taste. Mild, waning headache. No sweats, sleeping okay.
Has anyone here gotten over a mild case? What was your experience?
This has really sent me into a dark place.
We're isolating. Obviously.

(22,083 posts)We're also double boosted, and wearing masks. I walked in somewhere last week, and had left mine in the car. I turned around to go back and get it, and the receptionist said--oh, you don't have to wear one. I said--Oh, yes, I do!
Hope you are both well soon. Don't beat yourself up. Both Bidens got it too.

(115,724 posts)I have managed to avoid getting covid so far, but a good friend (age 73, vaxxed and boosted) got it a couple of weeks ago and his symptoms were a lot like yours, except that he also had a fever. He thinks he got it at a relative's wedding, which was supposed to be outside but it rained so everyone was huddled together inside, maskless. He started feeling better soon after starting to take Paxlovid (though it had a few side effects - bad taste in the mouth and a bit of intestinal upset) and was pretty well over it in a week. He's fine now, no after-effects. You'll be fine, too.
I'm really surprised that a medical office wouldn't require masks. I got an eye exam last week for new glasses and both I and the doctor had to wear a mask during the exam. Good for you for complaining.

(26,330 posts)My buddy caught a nasty case even though he is vaccinated and boosted.
I asked him if he was taking anything for it and he said nah Im gonna rough it. Two weeks later was crying uncle. He ended up going to the ER and all they could do is give him some antibiotics.
If I get Covid Im running not walking to the pharmacy to get Paxlovid.

(5,442 posts)Sore throat Wednesday night, knocked it down with tylenol. Headache Thursday all day so I took a test that came out positive. Had a zoom call Friday with my doc. Started paxlovid that evening. Symptoms went away. I had a slight cough, no fever throughout. No trouble sleeping, napped a lot, in fact. I'm feeling totally normal today. Thank God for vaccines and boosters. I did the whole regimen and intend to get a third booster in September. As someone else said, the only problem with paxlovid is that it creates a taste in your mouth like you've been chewing on grapefruit rind. A small amount of GI upset, but not too bad.

(5,125 posts)I had a mild case too. Just tired all the time. And felt better sleeping with my head elevated. Did not want my lungs to fill because pneumonia is usually what makes this stuff deadly.
They gave me PAXLOVID and I am told it's mostly effective for 65+
I had gotten my second booster on last Thursday in May and Tuesday had COVID. It was so mild I thought it might just be a side effect of the booster.
COVID fatigue afterward is my only issue.
I got a cold recently. It's not testing as COVID but I am exhausted. So it seems like my body fought so hard, that I'm not back to full strength yet.
That said. I went back to work after COVID (I have a very physical job). The first week I went home early twice, but kept at it every other day. I put together shipments that fill up trucks, lifting boxes that can weigh up to 50 pounds on my own. Just hit 60, so for my age that's a huge deal.

(5,229 posts)Be well soon. I've been needing an eye exam too, but put it off during Covid. Was about to make a needed appointment, but will hold off. Thank you for the warning. Masking is very iffy here.
