We went to our favorite bakery this morning.

Spent $40 something, plus a tip given to the cashier.

Breakfast pizza, regular pizza, several type of many cookies.

We took the food home and ate the living shit out of it.

Everything.

It's all gone now.

There is not a molecule of that food left.

We do this about once a year.

Now we're both in separate parts of the house nursing our stomach aches.

The nearest bakery to me is about 40 miles, and it's not what I would call a good bakery.

started in 6th grade (helping on weekends) and worked my way through college there. Terrible life (well, at least for a young guy!), but with my time there I worked my way up and became a 'serious' bench person - I knew how to 'make' the stuff - and knew how to mix the dough (I carried 100 lb. bags of flour to the mixer), how to work the 'steam cabinet' (where the dough has to 'rise' for the next phase), how to work the fryer (flipping 72 doughnuts floating in the 'grease' VERY FAST so that the first ones were not TOO much darker than the last), and how to empty the oven (6 shelves moving like a Ferris wheel - can't stop one shelf too long or you've burned the other 5!).

And the 'cost-cutting.'

The cost of the ingredients kept rising - can't imagine what it must be today! We made a special 'dinner roll' that used REAL BUTTER - and I would literally put POUNDS of butter into the layers of dough - and it truly was a great treat!

Guess it's like the old saying: "They don't make them like they used to......"

Truth is, they COULD - but who is willing to pay for it......

I will say…we went to Washington State. We have stopped and bought grapes everyday of 4.

What is it with the grapes here? They taste so so good.

Went to the market. Very hot, so I stayed in the car with my pup.

Hubs just came out with a big bag of grapes!

near where I used to live.

IT moved, and so did I, so when a friend is near it, I request 'desserts.' Will see what comes home next.

there's a most excellent, hardcore french bakery not far from here. divine croissant sammies. baguettes caprese. soooo much chocolate.

damn you. i'm only mad cuz they're spendy and i'm not flush atm. but.... but.... eclairs, damn it.
the pastry chef does the decorating in a big window. i'll need to set a timer or something if there's a wedding on the schedule.
