(24,772 posts)Our daughter did a study abroad there in 2014. We visited her for a week at the end.
What part of the country do you live in? We spent our week in Quepos.
How did the country come through that horrible hack of a few months ago?

(28,845 posts)Very proud.
Hack took a toll on our health services. Hard to make appts and pay bills.
But thats since improved. This country still uses hand ledgers as well as computers.
As my User name states
we live at Lake Arenal.
Near the town of Nuevo Arenal. The one picture is the view of the lake from my chair where we live.
Edit to add: in the lake pic you can see our rescued street dog Mailo soaking up the rays.
Hes the best thing from Costa Rica.

(24,772 posts)We spent a day there hiking. Volcano was socked in and we never did see it!
What is the animal lying down in the pic?
Glad things are back on track.
Lovely country and culture.

(5,128 posts)So very happy for you all.
Your sharing your experiences here at DU have been an inspiration.
I've been out of pocket for several weeks now. But issues slowly resolving. Diagnosed mid-August with heart failure.
Fixed it yesterday. WooHoo.
Will reach out to you in next few days.

(11,647 posts)For a good place to visit near the beach at xmas time? My wife and I go to Mexico every year at xmas, usually to Vallarta or Zihua and stay in casas we find on airbnb... We are thinking of Costa Rica but I really don't know where to look? We would like to explore a little inland maybe but especially to relax on the beach.

(11,647 posts)Scuba is a lot better on the other side but Caribbean destinations just usually are so much more touristy and artificial. I'm not sure if that is similar down in Costa Rica or not. We do have a budget and at most about a week so it has to be somewhere we can travel to relatively easily from the airport. Looks like San Jose has the most flights?
