I was gifted with an ipad four or five years ago from my healthcare provider.
Why they did this instead of lowering my copay on something important, Ill never know
Anyway, in the immediate flurry to get to use it, I set up the email without spending much time thinking about /remembering my password.
Ive spent four years in the attempt to get apple to reset it, but to no avail. I keep getting a message back that I will hear from then in a few days, but about 1,200 days have past since I first got told that.
I did like using a tablet, so I ended up buying an android/ whatever you call the non- Apple devices.
I dont understand how people can act like Apple is such a great product when attempts to rectify stupidly simple problems can be so frustrating.
People are biting at the bit to drop ridiculous amounts of money on the newest i product.
I just dont understand.

(21,106 posts)I like that. Although, I DO wish I had bought a lot of stock back in '82 when it was $.05 a share.
Or even in 2004 when it was $.50. Oh well.

Zero consistency with components. Whatever they can get cheapest, just like Harbof Freight.

(4,122 posts)I have three Mac Pros that I use for audio and video production. My livelihood depends on their reliability, which is why I still use them after decades in the business. If you walk into any high-end recording or video production facility in the world, theres a 99.99% chance they are using Apple computers, when they can afford to buy ANYTHING.
No offense to your grandson, but to say all the techies detest Apple is simply untrue.

(21,106 posts)I've always just found them to be overpriced for what they delivered. I've been using photoshop since v3. I've never found a need to use anything other than windows and I use it every day. It's all preference.

(4,122 posts)but if you need serious processing horsepower that works seamlessly with the operating system, theres no contest.
Its a bit like saying, my Corolla gets me to the grocery store and back just fine, I dont need a McLaren F1.

(21,106 posts)so I don't consider my machine a Corolla. Nothing wrong with using Windows for graphics.

(1,781 posts)leftovers from days gone past when the Mac ran it's tuned OS on RISC platforms. At that time, it was indeed far superior for rendering, etc. That gap has largely been eliminated these days, especially with the GPU options now available. There were far better platforms that would run circles around a Mac (SGI), but that's another argument for a different day.
Apple may still be dominant in professional graphics production, but that would be mostly because of "that's the way we've always done it" sort of mindset. Plus, when people learn on that platform, they are unlikely to be willing to change it after so many years.
Apple is indeed loathed by internal IT people, mostly because they refuse to go along with industry standards on just about anything.
They are a security nightmare because their users are addicted to the integration that they provide (and they do integration quite well I might add). Those integration features often require security policies to bend to their will, leaving open potential for other problems, and requiring special rules and unique coding just to satisfy a very small percentage of the users at great cost in IT man hours and frustration. Yea, It people hate having them in their environment.
And that's all not to even mention, it's a small platform base, and requires special versions of software that the other 95% of corporate users leverage daily.

(21,106 posts)BINGO!!
when people learn on that platform, they are unlikely to be willing to change it after so many years.

(4,122 posts)and there certainly is nothing wrong with using a PC for graphics but we are talking about completely different levels of demand on a computer.
The CPU hit on my Mac Pro when using large files in Photoshop doesnt even budge the needle but a 120 track film score at 24bit, 96k using symphony libraries and high-quality audio plugins will have all 12 cores nearly maxed out.
The Mac seems overpriced until you really need the muscle and the rock-solid stability and then they are priceless.

(4,919 posts)Call Apple support on 800-APL-CARE (800-275-2273). They should be able to resolve it over the phone. I've never once had a problem with Apple not resolving an issue since the early 90's.
Waiting 1,200 days is kind of a long time to wait for something that's important to you. But, resolving your problem is not what this post is about, really.

(4,122 posts)There are a total of nine Apple computers, phones, and tablets in our house and they all work flawlessly. Any issues weve ever had with any of them have been easily resolved, which I definitely cant say about the PCs we have.

(1,386 posts)but for me, it has been quite a different experience. I really cant blame anyone but myself for the problem, but I just found it so hard to work around it.

(1,781 posts)onto one of the weak points.
They make great products when you look from the perspective of the simple user who wants integration of all their devices. It makes it simple enough that pretty much anyone can get it all working, and the human interface aspect is superior. It's all gravy and their hardware is generally awesome, that is until there is a problem. Then it gets very problematic. Their warranty services are ass, their tech support is double-ass, and may God have mercy on your soul if you mess up those damn online accounts. They will all but flat-out refuse to do any manual innervation on your behalf.
NEVER lose the original email you registered with, and never get to a point where the self service password reset cannot be used. If you do, you are pretty much finished and have to start all over from scratch. Recovery is impossible, they will not intervene.
They have no mercy when it comes to that. I've been through that far too many times trying to help other people, and is the primary reason I won't have an Apple product anymore.

(24,368 posts)The expression is Champing at the bit. Horses do not bite nor do they chomp at the bit.
Sorry. Pet grammatical peeve of mine.
I own several Apple products, Im typing this on an iPhone 12 (looking forward to soon buying the 14) and have a Mac at home and an IPad. I like the way they for the most part, seamlessly share files with no effort on my part. If I take a photo on my phone it will show up on my Mac without me doing anything.
I think their products are elegant in design and operation, and since I have little to no desire to learn how to code, the fact that the software cant be easily altered by the user is of no concern to me.
Of course, YMMV

(231 posts)was an iphone. I think it was possessed. It would just stop working with a fully charged battery for hours or overnight. Blank screen, just wouldn't work. It was a current or brand new model when I bought it. It happened a couple of times in the UK and many other times in the US. It was kind of scary not having a phone that worked. Once when it stopped working, I went to an Apple store, when out of town in the US, they couldn't help, didn't know what was wrong, the next morning it started working. My husband and I changed to androids, since then there have not been any problems like that. My only problem, is too many apps.
