sows are older females, a brood sow would be a female that is kept for raising piglets... farrowing is the process of giving birth to the piglets...

I am a committed vegetarian now, still think pigs are awesome, although wouldn't raise them for that purpose now

they are very smart and affectionate if given love and the piglets are adorable

i stopped eating pork several years ago--it's actually been longer than "several" -- it was either a pic or video i saw of pigs heading up a ramp on their way to being slaughtered and hearing the frantic cries and screams of others in front of them--and i realized they knew what was coming. it was just horrific. that was the end of my pork consumption--i never wanted to be a party to such an ordeal ever again
