I will not give my DD-214 form to a foreign corp/government. Kia DEMANDS a DD-214 as proof

of service in exchange for $300 discount on a car purchase. The federal government website on this says that a “Real ID” drivers license with ‘veteran’ embossed on it is valid proof of service. Kia says no it isn’t.

I’m going to have to repay the Kia dealer $300. I don’t think Kia or the Korean government have need of my service record(s).

Just beware that Kia is doing this if or when you are able to buy a car. This should be across the board. Foreign gobs/corps have no business with American citizens service records.

Once you have "veteran " on your 'Real ID' drivers license that is sufficient as far as the state Augiedog Sep 2022 #8

I think Kia is owned by Hyundai -which is a publicly owned company.

Will they accept a DD-214 that has blacked out any personal information you don't wish to share with them?

From the Govt. Just request one from that service branch. Hubby did get one 50 years after he served.

But a dealer who demands money back from you should be publicized throughout the community. They need to "eat" that expense if they want customers. Let your community know. Bad business practices for sure.

PS. Been told by an Attorney that if they didn't tell you a DD-214 was a requirement of the sale, they have no recourse. Tell them to sue you. You needed that information to complete the sale. Good luck

I had to produce a DD-214 to get VETERAN on my license so you are correct, they do NOT need further proof than your DL.
