Damn! I hate financial surprises.

We have two decent vehicles. both 11 and 12 years old, but very low mileage.

Both due for annual inspection this month.

Took the first vehicle in today. $4,000 of work needed to pass inspection.

Subframe and related components rusted out like swiss cheese. New struts. New exhaust components. Couldn't believe it when I got the phone call. Said I needed to come and look at it. They weren't lying.

That's what happens when you barely drive your cars because of the pandemic. We've probably put 2,000 miles on each car in the past 2.5 years because we haven't gone anywhere. I blame this on trump. Fuck you trump. FUCK YOU!!

Decided to sell the smaller vehicle to finance the repair on the better vehicle, and to have some cash left over.

Got a decent offer from Carvana, but it's not enough. Vroom offer was even less. Have an appointment Monday with a dealer who is hungry for used cars, and I know what a fair price for it is. If the dealer doesn't up Carvana's price by $2,000, I'll sell it to a private party.

Before the pandemic, we drove those cars like crazy people, all over the place, all of the time. Now, we don't. When you don't drive them, they rot.

I got the car I am selling inspected today, and nothing is wrong with it. Frame getting some rust, but nothing that would prevent a sale. Wanted to make sure to get it inspected so I don't pass my problems on to someone else by selling it.

No need to have 2 cars anyway, I guess.

earlier this year, they were giving really good money on used cars. But that was months ago. Things may have changed.

Good luck!

I don't if these third party car part warranties are any good:https://www.motor1.com/reviews/377269/best-extended-car-warranty/

I knew there was another one, but couldn't think of the name.

I had a Chevy Blazer at one time that I bought a third party warranty for, and it actually worked out well. I beat the crap out of that thing, and the warranty took care of every problem that I ran into. That's was the only vehicle that I've ever had a third party warranty on.

Got a pretty good buck when I finally sold it. Those older used Blazers were in really high demand at the time.
