She already had one, so the one she gave me is a "Ninja" brand.
What do these gizmos really cook well?

(7,107 posts)Slice 'em up, nuke them in some water in the microwave just to give them a jump start (five minutes on high or so), dry 'em off, toss in a light coat of olive oil and salt, pepper, and maybe some garlic powder and/or paprika. I have the oven type of fryer, not the basket type, and I put them on the wire rack so it cooks both sides at once and I don't have to flip them.
Brussel sprouts turn out well, also.

(1,766 posts)Anything you'd usually bake, it does a fine job of that. If you can get it to fit.
Stuff you'd usually deep fry, or fry in gobs of fat/oil? All you need to do is spritz a temp/flavor appropriate oil on it, cook it, shake it halfway through, and VOILA! Crispy fried goodness.
But where it really shines? Honestly?
When you use it for reheating any fried-food leftovers, it can't be beat. So your leftover fries, onion rings, KFC, chicken McNuggets, fried shrimp--whatever--all of them heated in the air fryer will turn out warm and crispy, not rubbery.
In fact, I use mine for reheating more than I do the microwave now. Leftovers routinely turn out much better in my air fryer.

(11,026 posts)We have a grill insert for our air fryer and it does perfectly medium rare steaks in about 8 minutes.
It also does hot dogs in about 3 minutes and burgers in about 5.

(1,766 posts)And thank goodness for it. I was impatient one day with my cooking a steak in the air fryer.
Seared each side on the stove. Cooked it around 2 minutes on each side in the air fryer.
It was pushing rare status, but not quite. Still delicious and super tender.

(7,576 posts)I use it almost every day. Lots and lots of recipes online. So easy to clean and saves on electricity. LOVE mine!

(33,643 posts)Most commonly used for Buffalo Hot Wings but there's lots of ways to prepare/season them.
Look up recipes online, it's really easy to spice/prep/make them really good in an air fryer.
I get fresh 'party wings' from Costco, shake one package in a bag with about 1 tsp Baking Powder (NOT soda), 2 tsp kosher salt, couple dashes each of onion powder and cayenne. Once coated put on a plate or similar and let them sit at room temp about 20 minutes, then air fry. Then toss them in Franks Wing Sauce (of course there's lots of other options if you don't like Buffalo wings).
They come out awesome, though it's best if you put in the biggest/thickest drumettes first and let 'em cook about 3 mins before doing the flats and smaller drumettes.
