If you get a chance go to a herding trial. The various breeds herd in different ways. Borders have what is called a strong eye and in effect stalk the sheep like little wolves. Beardies bounce and are fun to watch. Corgis are really cattle dog and occasionally the sheep figure out that they can outrun a corgi

(17,863 posts)My border collie/collie mix by a large turkey statue. My aussie by a pig statue (it actually was more abstract). My daughter's border collie by the local college mascot panther statue.

(23,317 posts)I've had four in my lifetime and they are all herding machines. I can't even mow the lawn with my current BC...she herds the mower and bites the wheels...same with the string trimmer. It's a safety issue at this point...she just can't handle it. This dog piddles when the UPS guy gives her a biscuit but she'll eat a lawn mower no problem. She also herds the laundry as I take it out of the dryer...she just stares down each piece of clothing as it hits the basket then she herds me up the stairs and stares at it while I fold it. Border collies are wonderful little weirdos.
