https://www.mlb.com/news/shohei-ohtani-qualifies-for-league-leaders-as-pitcher-and-hitterMajor League Baseball has season leaderboards for hitting and pitching, both of which must be qualified for.
To qualify for the hitting leaderboards, you need 502 plate appearances - which is a bit over three PA per game if you played all 162 games.
Qualifying for the pitching leaderboards requires 162 innings of work, or one inning per game spread over the season.
Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels has 663 PA and 162 innings of work. No player has ever qualified for both leaderboards in the same season.

(12,904 posts)Any chance you could include the important stats?
Like batting average, etc? It would take me forever to look it up.

(50,559 posts)Batting: 666 PA (according to Baseball Reference), .273 BA, .875 OPS, 304 total bases, hit by pitch five times, 34 HR.
Pitching: 15 wins, 28 GS, 166 IP, gave up 124 hits and 14 HR, walked 44 men and struck out 219, hit two batters, didnt intentionally walk anyone, 2.33 ERA.
Have you tried Baseball Reference - dot - com? Anyone whos ever played MLB is in it.

(17,200 posts).875 OPS would look good on a middle infielder. I also tend to give a lot of weight to OPS+, and his 145 is outstanding.
And that only counts his contribution as a hitter. Throw in his pitching and, well, he's probably worth the 30 mil.
And when was the last time a pitcher was intentionally walked 14 times?

(17,200 posts)Is he still allowed to be DH, or do they have to sub for him there, too? A question I bet they never thought would come up when they made the DH rules.

Not everyone can travel to Los Angeles at the drop of a hat.

(50,559 posts)Let's first assume both players are still going to be Angels in 2023. I have the White Sox' 2023 schedule up, and there's only one Angels series at Guaranteed Rate Field next year: May 29-31.
If you'd like to go to Cleveland, the Angels play there May 12-14.
They play the Tigers July 25-27.
Kansas City may be a bit out of area for him, but the Angels are there June 16-18. Bring a car because Kauffman Stadium is the definition of "middle of nowhere."
They play the Twins September 22-24.
That's the nature of wanting to go to games against out-of-division teams: you get one shot a year.
