4. When I interviewed at a huge bank in NYC in 1984...

I was fresh out of the Air Force and had no formal training in the system software I was going to be supporting (VAX/VMS), but they looked like they were going to take a chance on me. The guy that was going to be my immediate supervisor had also been in the Air Force. They had me come back after lunch to interview with his boss, and his boss's boss. I sat in this guy's 38th floor corner office, overlooking New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty, Governor's Island, etc, and we chatted a little, then he asked me, "Where do you want to be in 5 years?"

I immediately answered, "Well, this office looks pretty nice."

He roared with laughter, I was hired and worked there for the next 8 years. Didn't get the corner office, but my window cubicle just down from his office had essentially the same view.
