Lunch on a cool October day - Grilled Cheese!

serious comfort food, american cheese and all....

Funny, my mom passed away earlier this year and I've been revisiting my childhood simple comfort foods. Bologna, lipton soup, jello cheesecake...

Anyway, just glad the heat is finally over and it's heater/sweats weather again.

I’ve always buttered the outsides of the bread, put a couple slices of American cheese inside, and grilled in a hot skillet or electric griddle. However, the last 3 times the sandwich doesn’t get crispy, just stays soggy. I’m thinking it may be the bread- I used whole wheat, maybe it has too much moisture.

I put a very thin coating on each slice and wipe off any areas I got too much on. Makes all the difference. You’d think it would be more butter /margarine the crisper it would get, but no.
