I think I got mine today. Purportedly from the Geek Squad, my bill for $384.97 came from this email address:
carmentrolingc977@gmail.com
Oops: I meant, as it is on the invoice I received, "Geek SQUAD." Caps theirs.
Never seen the word "troling" in an email address, misspelled or not.
What's the most obvious attempt at phishing (?) you've received?

(62,451 posts)you have won ----- " from fake Walmart, Costco, Southwest Airlines, on and on (about 50 different iterations). The sender is listed as about half a dozen alphabetic characters followed by a huge string of symbols then dot gmail.com
I get about 30 to 50 of these a day. Never opened one yet - just mark them as phishing.
been getting some of those "geek squad" emails too, but not near as many as the ones I describe above.

(19,204 posts)and that's just the subject. Some are supposedly about refinancing rental properties, others are "questions about your recent purchase". Everyone has purchased something recently, right?
There's often misspellings and they just dont look right. The email addresses are always something odd. They never look like they're from a legitimate company.
Sure, I'll open them immediately.

(16,254 posts)Most of my phishing emails are asking me to give them my address, as they have been trying to reach me due to a package that they can't deliver.
Today's emails are from Capital One asking me to sign the receipt for item #...I have 3 of those, so far, and each has different numbers and were sent within minutes of each other. How dumb do they think we are?
Many are from businesses such as Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Each has different addresses even when sent within minutes of each other. I get several of those each day.
If I don't recognize the number or name of a caller, I don't answer. Of course at this time, most of my calls are political. A TON of those. I give to my favorites who have a chance.

(21,803 posts)They have money from a legal settlement waiting for me to claim it.
Seems my medical records from the VA show health issues consistent with contamination in the water from Camp LeJeune.
All I need to do is send them my personal information and my bank account number so they can process the claim and deposit the check directly.
I was never in the Marines, never been treated by the VA, and I couldn't point out Camp LeJeune on a map.
I get something along these lines every day.
