I was finally able to get a vet appointment for my Vicky this morning. It was not a happy occasion, although she behaved well once I got her in the carrier (surprise!). Other than a mild hiss at me while I was catching her, she was gentle and well-mannered, not usual for her. Unfortunately, the X-rays confirmed my worst fears. Her pelvis was completely smashed; the vet thinks she was run over by a car or something, possibly even an ATV as Vicky was afraid of the road. There was no way this could be fixed, so we elected to have her put to sleep. My girl is now frolicking at Rainbow Bridge. I'm glad she came home so I could give her this last gift of going easy. I will miss her, her tiny meow, her big green eyes, and her inexplicably heavy-footed run as she came down the deck stairway for meals. We'll bury her this evening under the holly tree where she liked to lie in wait for small critters.

(17,331 posts)But it's a tale with an unhappy ending. Sorry to read about Vicky's demise, Jilly. We've lost a number of pets over the years, never easy.
All the best to you.

(49,041 posts)knowing how much you cared for her, how you would do everything you could to help her. I believe in reunions with loved ones on the other side, where Vicky is healthy and young again, playing like a kitten. I'm sure you will see her again, and she'll be able to thank you very clearly.

(3,117 posts)It's so touching she made it home to you despite her grave injuries. She trusted you to take loving care of her in her moment of greatest need. And you did exactly that.
Condolences to you my friend.

(23,764 posts)At least you know she had tender loving care before she passed, as opposed to never
knowing what happened to her. RIP Vicky.

(81,507 posts)Gotta say, I look at our three cats (who are still young) and always wonder how long God will let me keep them.
Theyre 100% indoor cats.
Thinking of you and sending hugs.

Sorry, Jilly.

(5,812 posts)I had a roommate who passed away in Dec 2018 and well before this happened, he worried every day who would take care of his cat when he went -- my roommate was well into his 80s so he was dealing with a very real concern. I said that I would -- and now the cat, Domino, is 18 years old and on his last legs. I wonder every day when I get up and check on him if this is the day that I will have to make that trip to the vet.
The hardest thing about a pet is the day they cross that Bridge. Domino is my first cat but to this day, I miss my six Scotties who passed way...I still love each and every one of them and have their pictures close by.
Again, so sorry.
