(24,041 posts)I hadnt gone to an in-person conference in years. Too expensive. My contract at my former job did have a continuing education allowance, but it was barely enough to cover the registration fee of a typical 2-4 day meeting.
By the time youd factor in air fare, 3 nights at a special conference rate for a hotel room (minimum $250 a night in any big city) and food, attendance at a conference would be at least $2000.00 - just too much.

(66,462 posts)Great topic. And I learned a lot of clinically useful things. I have a panel of maybe eleven transgender patients, and I want to be sure that I practice in such a way that they trust me and know our clinic is a safe place.
My grandson is dating a transgender man, and they are both living with us. But I can't learn a lot from his amore, because we don't talk about transgender issues; we just accept him for who he is. He's family.

(2,813 posts)I think being supportive of transgenders is very kind and accepting. So many people just jump to judgement, without the slightest idea of what these people are going through

(66,462 posts)It's how I found fulfilment despite having a father who told me I'd never amount to anything. And he was a healer, too. He might have known better.

(66,462 posts)I had passed all of my exams up to that point. He knew I was going to make it. In fact, the first exam I flunked was after the week I took off for his funeral. Unfortunately, there was no 'movie-of-the-week' final death scene where he said "I'm proud of you, son." Real life isn't always a Hollywood movie.
