Two 45-minute halves of a continuous clock, no commercial breaks. Mute during halftime, and you get two hours of no fucking political ads.

(2,294 posts)Football is ballet for big guys. Baseball is oh so slow though.

(7,626 posts)so far just can't get into it. I haven't given up but it just doesn't have the excitement factor that Baseball or Football does for me. I'm not giving up.

(82,849 posts)I suggest sitting in one of the end zone areas. I started watching soccer in the early 1980s, and went to some Timbers matches. When I sat in what was then Section 18 (now 107), I understood the action so much better. Watching from the midfield camera angle on TV, I didn't get a feel for the plays and the strategy. Watching from the end zone, I could see where the players were going and why to set up a goal-scoring opportunity. While goals are not scored with the frequency a lot of people would like, the game comes alive when you see what the players are doing.

(82,849 posts)You want to see hustle and grit, check out the NWSL. None of that swan-diving, shin-grabbing mama's boy nonsense so prevalent in the men's game.

(24,006 posts)In the 5 matches played today, there were 20 goals scored - not too shabby.
The games are carried on NBC, USA and Peacock.
They are about to be on break during the World Cup.
This is the site I use to keep track of the stats and match schedules:

Detroit does have an up and coming soccer team, DCFC. Their matches look like a lot of fun.

(2,343 posts)I used to not like it. I was a huge NFL fan since I was a kid and thought soccer was boring. But, I started watching it and now I'm obsessed. I really like the inclusiveness of the game as well. One thing I can say: I've seen plenty of rainbow flags flying at soccer games. I've never seen one flying at an NFL or baseball game.

(4,441 posts)I love watching my grandson play soccer (high-school) and I love watching the pros too. The action is continuous, as opposed to football where they run a 3 second play and then take time to set up the next 3 second play.

(62,420 posts)the 60 minutes of clock in an American football game that takes close to four hours to play.
But I admit I watch college regular season because:
- there is nothing like the college atmosphere and
- I can keep 4 games going with the remote and seldom see a commercial.
Pro football and baseball are like watching grass grow.
As for soccer - haven't grown an attachment to any team will watch the World Cup for sure.
