My favorite part of the NASCAR Championship Race

The last race of the 2022 NASCAR season was held yesterday, and Joey Logano won the Cup with his dominating race win. It's great when the champion wins the last race of the season...because of how the NASCAR championship works, you could win the Cup but come in sixth or seventh in the final race.

Since my drivers - Kevin Harvick and Daniel Suarez - got knocked out of the championship hunt fairly early on,

Now, here's the cool part: Logano last won the championship in 2018. When he did, his son was a new baby totally unaware of what his daddy does for a living. Now the boy is four and was able to totally understand what was going on. After he finished his post-race interview, Joey Logano picked up his son and visited with every member of his crew.

Just happy that Hamlin got eliminated the week before by Chastain's crazy move.

However, I was really rooting for Chastain because he drives for a very new team. Trackhouse has only existed since 2020 and it put both its drivers into Victory Lane this season.

End of the season thoughts: I am REALLY impressed with the new car. This car has produced some of the best racing I've seen yet. NASCAR wants to "take the race shops" out of the equation and let the drivers show what they can do, and the new car has made that happen. I'd like to see them relax on the engine formula because with the "you must run a 350-cubic-inch pushrod V8" rule you will never see companies like Volkswagen or Hyundai enter the series. Both companies make sedans in the US, so they'd be good companies to have in the series.

Plus as long as you have 350 ci pushrod engines, you can have parity between manufacturers. You start opening it up to forced induction and overhead cams, you cost everyone a ton of money and run a big risk of giving one manufacturer a big advantage.

Nice to have a discussion about NASCAR here without someone coming in and denigrating the sport.
