MARQUETTE, MI - Canines Thor and Loki have been bringing joy and comfort to U.S. Coast Guard Station Marquette for more than four years. And for that, they deserved a promotion, officials said.
They were both promoted to Second Class Morale dogs during a ceremony last week.
Thor and Loki have proudly served as Station Marquettes morale dogs, bringing joy and comfort to the crew and the people of Marquette, officials said in a Facebook post. As second classes, these fantastic pups will continue to bring happiness to the station every day.
They were previously promoted to Petty Officer Third Class during February 2020.
The Vizsla-Lab canines were adopted by the station when they were 2 years old after the crew decided to get a station dog. The brothers had been rescued by UPAWS, a U.P.-based non-profit pet rescue and shelter, from a Missouri shelter the day before they were scheduled to be euthanized. They were inseparable, so the station took them both.
The dogs arent trained in search and rescue or any other skills; their primary job is to live happy lives and thereby bring happiness to the crew and community.
