Tomorrow is the anniversary of losing my dream job

It's been awhile, but it still hits me every year. I worked so hard to train for it. I applied for jobs until I got it, including traveling the country for a new job. I earned really good pay. Great boss. Told employed as long as I do my job. Made friends.

The new CEO had run a California community hospital into the ground. He failed up by getting more pay, country club membership, and Mcmansion at my hospital; nearly a million a year. More than some doctors. He decided to make cuts. I was one of them. I was the only person doing my job for 3 hospitals. I thought that made me safe.

And here I am now, disabled and out of work. And I wonder would that had happened had I not been cut loose. I was performing well. Too.

There is a gift in everything. What is the gift in losing that job?

Maybe not having a stroke or dying of covid? Or...

Asking rhetorically...

I fought management tooth and nail, but they won and went bankrupt.

The guy who fired me got fired himself.

I ended up in a much better situation.

I’ve been chopped a couple times. Never for performance, I was the low man on the totem pole.

I'm sorry you lost your job, is there a way to channel the talent of your pervious job into, maybe not the same job but something similar that could work with your disability, meaning helping people with disabilities?

I hope it gets better for you.

The hospital was expanding and building galore. My boss and I thought that was a good sign. Only a small percent got let go, but when it's you...

I think I earned too much for a woman. Red state

How productive, skillful, or educated. It's all about the money. Funny thing is, I bet they needed to higher two people to replace what you were doing and most likely cost more a the end of fiscal year. It's always messed up like that.

I was viewed as expendable. So, they went many years without one. They merged with another hospital and finally hired a professional colleague.

But I'm still sure it was my salary. Very red place back then. I was a rare liberal. They probably realized that good information leads to better health outcomes. The new hospital probably forced it

My daughter wanted to be a librarian, but decided to go into teaching. She lives in all the libraries within the 5 counties of our area. She's always loved books, but she loves to be in the buildings with all the knowledge around her while she reads.

I know it's not an easy position to find, but don't give up. You might be surprised to find you are at the right place and time for a second go of it, and you are just where you needed to be. Keep trying.

Librarians are special people, that help create a safe place to submerge yourself in knowledge and growth, thank you for creating that place for people when they need it most.

The week before I was told I was going to be promoted to program director, and moved to afternoon drive. And then I didn’t go to the “after Christmas because it’s cheaper to rent the hall then,” party, after being told I was going to go and have a good time. That’s what I was fired for.

It took a while, but one day I got a call telling me the guy who had fired me, had himself been fired. We had a party to celebrate.

Payroll manager. Before the Huge Corporation took over, it was a great place to work and I would have retired from there. The new people made life miserable to say the least. Got rid of all “old” upper management including the Dir of Nursing who’d been there 30 years. Their reasoning? They needed to replace her with one of their people who knew “their” way of running a hospital - dangerous nurse-patient ratios, etc. My job as payroll manager become one of policing the department heads “why did you have OT? Why did you go over budgeted hours?” I lasted 1.5 years of that and eventually the entire accounting department left for other jobs.
6 years after the takeover they realized they couldn’t make a profit there and sold it to a regional nonprofit group who is still running the place

But it was all my fault. I was overdoing it with an autoimmune disease and my body just crapped out.

I am still dealing with major depression from not being able-bodied anymore.

After years of freelancing, I had just moved up to first call for the symphony when they needed a rhythm section bass player.

Good union pay, with benefits, working with some of the best musicians in the state...

But, I had to give it all up 7 months ago to move in with my mom and take care of her. Not only have I not played a gig in 7 months, I haven't played at all. This on the heels of the pandemic. I was out of work for about a year, and the work had not only started coming back, but things were better than ever.

Oh, well. It is what is is.

You certainly have my sympathy, as I sort of know how you feel.

I have been reading a lot of Marcus Aurelius lately. It helps a little bit.

It’s too bad you can’t file a lawsuit against that sucker for wrongful termination. But, he sounds like the kind of guy that you’d have to get in line to sue.
