(4,483 posts)how aquatic species without gills slept, either for a nap or for the night. Are they able to retain enough oxygen to be able to sleep more than say 20 minutes at a time? How on earth do they get enough rest? Do sleeping whales float near the surface, with their blowholes exposed or something? Are we sure that turtle isn't just dead?

(3,172 posts)...we just happened to be in Maui last week when I noticed this post. We always try to photograph the Honu, (Green Turtles), when we visit. These are just a few of the hundreds of pics that we captured. Yes, they often pull themselves up onto the beaches or rocks to rest or sleep.
My wife shot this one.
