We just had our pure white long hair cat trimmed. I know it's not a great time of year to have shorter fur,
but he had bad knots and a poopy butt. The price for the trim and a couple shots was $408.00. Yikes!
So my question is--can I get a safe tranquilizer to give him so I can trim him myself? He has to be doped
up or he won't allow his hair cut.

(34,475 posts)Few or no side effects. You can ask your vet to prescribe it for you in pill form.

(20,763 posts)There are some great YouTube videos on grooming longhair cats. If you can get him in the habit of daily grooming he might get a lot less skittish about the occasional trim.
One important key with grooming longhairs is having the right tools and using them in the right order.
It also helps to wait until about 20 minutes after they've had a good meal as their natural sleepy endocrines are kicking in about then.
helpfully,

(12,191 posts)Our Maine Coon likes to roll around in sunbeams during summer and gets mats once in a while.
The groomer even puts a cute little bandanna on him when shes done.

(12,191 posts)I cant believe shes able to do it. He gets really annoyed when you try brushing him when he doesnt want you to.
She also has dogs in no shop while hes there.🤷🏼♀️

(22,148 posts)Too iffy. I'd try to stay on top of his daily grooming more, so he doesn't get in bad shape.
$408 is pretty outrageous though.
