(27,677 posts)but didn't think it would go down the way it did. I figured the kid would be shown watching them from a distance without being spotted. And, just like the girl that found the respirator in the desert way back in the first season, eventually it gets the attention of the cops/DEA.
Todd didn't have to do what he did. They could have easily spun a story that would fool a kid. Act official, spin some jargon, act nonchalant and the kid will forget about it.
On the plus side, at least they have access to an excavator. :/
That's me. Always looking on the bright side.

(17,742 posts)I didn't see that coming.

(17,742 posts)I don't see why Todd did that. So what? A kid sees some guys in the desert doing something, so what? There's no report of any theft or any hijackings or anything, why did he not just let it go?
Actually I was thinking it would be Todd left in the desert. And maybe now it will be.
That was intense. Can't imagine a more suspenseful scene, well except for the Giants game earlier today...

(1,374 posts)"Dead Weight" <--LOVE the title of the episode foreshadowing the events to come.
The entire episode had so much tension. The train robbery had me on the edge of my seat. And I'm still trying to digest the ending. wow. Another dead kid. I knew something was going to go wrong and the cold open did give a clue but I did not expect that new character to be so cold blooded.
I also can't get over what a big risk Walt took bugging Hank's office. The crocodile tears con job Walt put on just continued the theme of making us dislike Walt more and more.
Excellent episode!

(27,677 posts)Something always goes wrong with their capers and we're led to believe that it's the Good Samaritan who pushes the dump truck off the tracks. Just like when they almost got caught degaussing the evidence room with the giant electromagnet. So when they just barely pull it off, we think that it's over and we revel vicariously in their release of nervous energy. Then we see the kid on the motorcycle...
Hank will find out. It's just a matter of when. That they've been able to string that story along for five seasons without making Hank the dumbest cop in the world is a testament to the show's writing. But the story demands that we get this payoff at some point. The entire show has been building towards that confrontation. The thing is... what will Hank do about it? The show has already established that he would be in a lot of trouble for missing it for so long as the previous ASAC got canned for overlooking Gus for being right under his nose.
Spoiler from the preview for next week...
It looks like Sky and Marie have a talk with Sky saying that the kids aren't safe at home and Marie pressing her for the reasons why. That combined with Walter's performance in Hank's office (she doesn't love me, says I'm a bad parent/influence, whatever) and the next logical step is that Hank and Marie will compare notes and we all know that Marie can't keep anything confidential. They will know that something is seriously wrong in the White household.
I'm only guessing here but I think we're close to Hank finding out and it may happen in the next three episodes, just in time for the long hiatus. At the same time we're dealing with the fallout from Todd's murder of the child. Walt and Mike will shrug it off as "collateral damage" as they were prepared to kill the train crew in the first place. But Jesse won't be able to handle it. We know how he is when kids get involved... Tomás, Brock, Spooge and Skank's kid in Peekaboo, etc.
We're in for a wild ride, BrBa fans...

(1,374 posts)...if he finds the bug in the picture frame because he caught Walt holding it. Big confrontation building there which should have a good pay-off.
Can't wait for that as well as the separation of Jesse from the group over the increasing ruthlessness of Walt and Mike. Jesse is becoming the primary protagonist in the show. I wonder if they'll flip that on us before it's all over.
What a wonderful show. So well done and makes me think every week what I'd do in that situation. It makes us confront the dark side of human nature in a way no other show has ever done. I just love it!

(17,742 posts)when they fired up that generator, how come the train guys didn't hear it? Or do we suppose that they tested all these things out beforehand? I suppose they would have.
And the pipe fittings all working, like that's realistic!

(1,374 posts)But I'm willing to suspend disbelief a bit. It was under the bridge in a bit of a gully with hills around to buffer the noise.
It seemed to me they had all the technical specs for the train car and were very prepared. They even knew the right size bolts for the hatch on top. We didn't see them getting this info, but we all know how detail-oriented Walt is.

(61,935 posts)Between the noise of the diesels, the length of the train, and the similar sound of the generator I can buy it.

(6,145 posts)This season seems like an epilogue and you don't really have the intensity of previous years but this show deserves it.
Best TV series ever!

Unlike sports I can't see on basic TV, I'm not aware of any Breaking Bad bars.
