(15,650 posts)We no longer give gifts to each other on Christmas. Or at least we no longer feel obligated to do so. Why? Because none of us liked shopping and none of us really wanted or needed anything from other family members. Our Christmases are now stress free and entirely about being together, enjoying each others company, and sharing meals. Best thing we ever did all 5 of us agree. Of course, my wife and I still enjoy gifting our 3 kids some buffer money each Christmas because we can easily afford to do so and our kids would only inherit it eventually anyway. The keys: stress free and lots of time together. On a less practical, political side, we no longer contribute to and enable the predatory capitalist machine on this holiday that really is all about celebrating love and tolerance for one another when you boil it down to its essence.
